Meet the Educator

Cheyenne is a certified birth and postpartum professional and founder of The Educated Birth, and Everyday Birth Magazine. Since 2016, she has supported and educated families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences in and beyond her home base of Richmond, VA. She has developed hundreds of industry-changing illustrations and teaching tools for reproductive health professionals that are used today throughout the US and internationally.

Course Outline

Throughout our sessions, we will delve into the following:

The History of American Racism: Explore the historical context of racism in the United States, focusing on how systemic oppression has shaped the lives of marginalized communities.

Racism in the Reproductive Health Space: Delve into the specific ways racism manifests in reproductive health, including the contributions and exclusion of Black Grand midwives, disparities in maternal and infant outcomes, and treatment within healthcare systems.

The Changemakers + Solutions: Highlighting individuals leading the charge, offering and demonstrating solutions for equity in reproductive health.

Reparations, Redistribution + Allyship: Discuss the concepts of reparations and redistribution as pathways to justice, and explore how birthworkers can practice effective allyship to support their peers and parents from marginalized communities.

What this course ISN'T...
A substitute for professional medical support or guidance. The purpose of this course is to empower you with information that will help you explore your options and preferences. We will not prescribe specific decisions or choices for your pregnancy, labor, or postpartum journey. Alongside the individualized guidance and hands-on support, you get from professionals, it is designed to equip you to communicate clearly and navigate your experience more confidently, effectively — more empowered.
